Call for Action to Stop Bottom Trawling in UK Waters by Foreign Boats

A handful of big foreign fishing boats are responsible for a large proportion of destructive bottom trawling in vulnerable areas of English waters and should be banned, according to the Tories.
Parliament heard UK vessels carried out only a small amount of the controversial practice, which involves dragging large nets along the seafloor.
The call for a crackdown came after the government unveiled proposals to extend the span of sea where bottom trawling is prohibited.
