Togiak Herring Update: No Threshold Yet

Nearly daily updates are coming from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in Dillingham for the soon-to-be-opened herring roe season in Togiak.
ADF&G staff are looking for a threshold amount of 35,000 metric tons of herring by conducting aerial surveys. As of Sunday, although they have spotting smaller schools, they have not documented a threshold.
Yesterday’s update reported that the staff “flew a survey of the Togiak herring district with fair to good conditions. Herring were observed inside and outside of Kulukak Bay with a few more schools west of Kulukak Bay. There were no herring observed...
