A leading fisherman in Leigh has called for a unified crackdown on gangs illegally harvesting shellfish across Southend.
Paul Gilson, Leigh town councillor and president of the South East branch of the National Federation of Fishermen’s Organisations, said the fishing industry faced continued pressure from illegal shellfish harvesting by “criminal gangs.”
