Japan: Hokkaido Fall Chum Return 21.23 Million, 36% Short of Forecast
Hokkaido's fall chum salmon fishing ended in the main areas on November 30. According to the final tally (preliminary figures) of the Daily Report of Hokkaido Federation of Fisheries Cooperative Association, this year's cumulative catch was 53,214 tons, down 32% from the same period last year, Minato Shimbun reported.
Hokkaido's fall chum fishery continued to suffer from historic lows, with the catch falling below 50,000 tons from 2019 to 2021 but showed signs of recovery last year with 79,000 tons.
