Trade War Ahead? WA Legislature Proposes $.06/Gal Export Fuel Tax to AK, ID, OR Customers
Washington State’s Democratic legislature is considering a six-cents per gallon export tax on fuel refined in the state and sold to Alaska, Idaho, and Oregon. Governors and legislators from all three neighboring states have pushed back, many claiming it is in violation of the Commerce Clause in the U.S. Constitution and extremely bad policy for regional cooperation on infrastructure projects like bridges, highways, and basic needs of coastal communities that rely on fishing-based economies.
