Japan’s Seafood Self-sufficiency Rate Fell to 49% in 2022
On August 7, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) announced the food self-sufficiency rate for FY2022. On a calorie basis, it was 38%, the same as the previous year. On a production value basis, it was 58%, the lowest ever, due to factors such as an increase in the value of imports due to the weaker yen.
