Tesco May Drop Indian Ocean-based Tuna Due to Sustainability, Overfishing Concerns
UK-based retailer Tesco has decided to stop sourcing tuna and billfish from the Indian Ocean which typically supplies its ‘Own Brand’ line until the fishery is able to address sustainability and overfishing concerns.
Tesco noted its aim to sustainably source all of the wild-caught seafood. The retail giant noted how tuna creates challenges from a sustainability standpoint due to its migratory nature and how it is overseen by various jurisdictions.
