Canada Announces Surplus Seafood Products to be Distributed to First Nation Communities
Canada’s Minister of Northern Affairs, Dan Vandal, on behalf of Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau announced a $10.8 million investment through the Surplus Food Rescue Program to the Fisher River Cree Nation (FRCN).
The Nation will rescue up to 1.4 million pounds of freshwater fish caught from inland lakes of Canada. Alongside help from the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation, the product will be distributed to over 75 Indigenous communities in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the North.
