Owner of Japanese Fishing Vessel Charged with Illegal Shark Fin Trafficking

Hamada Suisan, owner of a Japanese-flagged fishing vessel was charged with aiding and abetting attempted export of shark fins out of Hawaii.
The Department of Justice announced that Suisan allegedly violated the Lacey Act after it discovered approximately 962 sharks fins, weighing about 190 pounds, from the checked luggage of a fisherman working aboard Suisan’s vessel in 2018.
