Eastern Fisheries to announce purchase of minority interest in Hokkaido scallop company

US-based scallop supplier Eastern Fisheries plans to announce a joint venture with a seafood company in Japan next week, marking a step towards its goal of becoming a vested presence in every commercially viable scallop fishery in the world.
Details remain behind closed doors, but Eastern released its official letter of intent to purchase an equity stake the company last week, which would give it a vested interest in Japan's Hokkaido scallop fishery, the largest scallop fishery in the world.
