Taxpayer to be Tapped for Half the Cost of $8.7m Cameras on Boats Scheme
There’s pressure to fix cost recovery levels in the commercial fishing sector, as government agency Fisheries NZ proposes co-funding the cameras on boats programme at a cost of nearly $4 million a year to the public purse.
With the camera roll-out complete and about 220 commercial fishing vessels fitted with cameras, officials are figuring out how to cover the estimated total operating costs of $8.7 million a year.
