Lobster Catches Plummet by More than 22,000 in a Year
LOBSTER catches dropped by more than 22,000 crustaceans in a year, the latest sea fishery data has shown.
And catches have nearly halved in the last eight years.
The long-awaited 2023 Sea Fisheries Annual Statistical Bulletin has been published, giving an insight into the challenges faced by local fishers.
Guernsey's biggest ocean harvest remains crabs, with just over 500 tonnes landed.
But this dropped from 616 tonnes in 2022 and 784 tonnes in 2013.
The report said the recent decrease was due to reduced effort by larger vessels and changes in the fleet of smaller vessels.
