Japan: July Chilean Coho Imports Plummet 80%, Russian Sockeye Spike 80%

According to the Ministry of Finance's trade statistics, July imports of salmon and trout, fresh and frozen combined, were down 31% year-on-year to 9,026 tons, and the value was down 23% to 14.553 billion yen ($98.4 million). Imports of frozen Chilean coho salmon, the primary product, declined sharply, leading to higher unit prices. Imports of frozen Chilean trout also decreased.
