The push for offshore wind development seems to have left wave energy in its wake. But Oregon State University and politicians haven't.
Before the gold rush to lock in ocean areas for thousands of wind turbines, wave energy had its own mini-gold rush in the late 2000s. Companies vied for nearshore areas that, on the West Coast, would have meant disruption to hundreds of nearshore fishermen, including Dungeness crabbers. Wave energy never really developed.
