Sophia Fisheries Reaches $42K Settlement with Monterey County in Marine Protected Area Case
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office announced that it has reached a settlement totaling $42,747 with Sophia Fisheries, Inc. for violation of Marine Protected Area-related laws and regulations.
California’s Department of Fish and Wildlife’s marine patrol personnel determined through GPS technology that Sophia Fisheries’ vessel, the Navigator, was fishing for spot prawn with traps in the Portuguese Ledge State Marine Conservation Areas (SMCA) on multiple occasions in 2019 and 2020.
