JAPAN: May Seafood Imports, Exports Up In Value, Down In Volume
According to the May customs statistics released by the Ministry of Finance on June 29, imports of marine products (including non-edibles) have picked up slightly even though they are less than last month. The value increased significantly as unit prices continued to rise. Suisan Keizai reports that due to rising international prices and the Japanese yen depreciation, procurement costs are likely to be high.
