Coast Guard Medevacs Man From Tanker 170 miles off Cold Bay, Alaska
The captain of the oil tanker Alaskan Navigator radioed for an air medevac last Wednesday afternoon for a 61-year old man suffering from abdominal pain.
The Juneau 17th District USCG command center requested that the tanker change course in order to meet the Coast Guard helicopter for the hoist.
The 905-foot crude oil tanker, under a U.S. flag, was en route from Valdez to China, about 270 miles southwest of Unalaska, when they reversed course.
