Ammonia Spill Reported At Trident Seafoods' Akutan Plant

Trident Seafood reported an ammonia leak at its Akutan plant in late January, according to a report from KUCB of Unalaska, AK. The company is working with the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to investigate the leak. 

Crystal Smith of the Alaska DEC told KUCB that about 5,000 pounds of the gas spilled while the plant was conducting a purge of its refrigeration system. It was during that task that company employees noticed the ammonia was gone.
