In another sign of weakness in Whitefish, Uruguay’s Fripur to Close

Uruguay’s largest fish processing company, Fripur, is closing this week and entering liquidation.
Fripur represents 50% of Uruguay’s fish export revenue. For years it has produced breaded whiting products. However, markets in Europe have become very difficult, and the company was unable to capitalize on opportunities in Nigeria as well.
For many years, it was an exporter of frozen fish products to the US as well, specializing in retail sales of breaded whiting fillets.
The closure follows a voluntary bankruptcy in July 2014. However, no buyer could be found for the company, and the bankruptcy receivers have determined that liquidation is the only option....
