Chris Garggiulo ends up loving his new career running the historic Cotuit Oyster Co.

Chris Gargiulo hadn’t planned to be an oysterman when he got a degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University. But after working in corporate security in the Boston area for 15 years, on one of his trips to the Cape to visit family he met Dick Nelson, who had operated Cotuit Oyster Co. for more than 30 years.
In 2004, he bought the business that had operated for more than 100 years on a sliver of land on Little River Road with 33 acres of grants in Cotuit Bay. Cotuit Oyster started selling commercially in 1837.
Now, 10 years later at 42, he has grown the business. He and five employees harvest the famed Cotuit oysters with a distinctive taste year round, no matter what the weather (“and this winter was not fun”), and ship them all over the country and to Canada.
