Alaska's black cod season starts up this Saturday with export prices holding steady

On Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 12:00 PM local time fishermen will take to Alaskan waters to fish a statewide Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for halibut and black cod set at 16.8 million pounds and 33.6 million pounds respectively.
"In total Alaska is home to over 95% of the Pacific halibut and over 70% of the black cod harvested in the United States," said the Alaska Seafood Marketing Instiute's Tyson Fick.
This year's sablefish haul will come into to a market that has seen comparably stable export pricing versus last year. A late-year price spike in 2012 sent prices to a three-year high to just under $7.00 per pound in early 2013.
