Striped Bass Recovery in Gulf of St. Lawrence Renews Salmon Impact Debate
The striped bass population in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence had a good year in 2025.
According to Fisheries and Oceans Canada's scientific assessment, the population of spawning fish grew from an estimated 340,300 in 2024 to 547,300 in 2025.
That's still down, however, from an estimated 585,323 spawners in 2023.
