New Testing Reveals Restaurants Serving Foreign Shrimp in this Area of Louisiana
One-third of randomly selected restaurants on the New Orleans area's West Bank were serving imported shrimp without disclosing the origins of their seafood as required by Louisiana law, according to new findings by a company using genetic testing to expose the problem.
For years, shrimpers have struggled to compete against cheap foreign imports and an ongoing pattern of mislabeling. According to the FDA, 95% of the seafood consumed in the U.S. is imported from other countries.
