OPINION: Trawl Bycatch Is One Cause of Salmon Decline That We Can Control

Salmon runs across Western Alaska, particularly in the Yukon and Kuskokwim river systems, have collapsed to levels that would have been unthinkable a generation ago. Subsistence harvests have been shut down, families have lost a primary food source, and entire regions and cultures are being asked to absorb consequences they did not create. Alaskans are right to demand accountability.
