EU's von der Leyen Confident of Majority to Close Mercosur Trade Deal
Enough EU member states will support the EU-Mercosur trade deal to eventually approve it, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said early on Friday.
Von der Leyen told European Union leaders at their Brussels summit on Thursday that the signing of the contentious trade deal had been delayed to January, as a demand from Italy for more time meant it did not have sufficient support.
"We have reached out to our Mercosur partners and agreed to postpone slightly the signature," von der Leyen said, adding she was "confident" that there was a sufficient majority
