Irish Fishing Fleet Facing 2,000 Job Losses Over Proposed Cut in Mackerel Quota
Politicians and fishing leaders have branded the move as “Armageddon” for our trawler fleet and factories
The Irish fishing fleet is facing 2,000 job losses over a proposed 70% cut in the mackerel quota next year.
The recommendation has been made by a scientific group, International Council for Exploration of the Seas, to protect the pelagic fish stocks in the Atlantic which have been decimated by overfishing.
