Gulf Shrimpers Welcome New Labeling Legislation Over Imported Products

A new state law requiring imported, farm-raised shrimp to be conspicuously labeled as such took effect Monday and applies to all food service suppliers, wholesalers, distributors and wholesale distributors.
The law also prohibits restaurants from labeling or otherwise representing imported shrimp as Texas, American, domestic or Gulf shrimp, with state, county and municipal health departments authorized to impose administrative penalties for violations, according to the Texas Shrimp Association (TSA).
