Study Launched Quickly to Assess Threat of Octopus Invasion in SW

A study has been launched following a rise in octopus numbers in Tor Bay and along the South West coast, which fishermen say is “decimating” the county’s shellfish industry.
The bloom of common octopus was first reported in May by local fishermen, who noticed a sudden drop in their usual catches of crab and lobster, replaced instead by octopus and the remains of devoured crustaceans.
