Alaska Law Exempts Fishing Co-Op Insurance Agreements From State Code

Insurance agreements struck between commercial fishing cooperatives will no longer be regulated as traditional insurance due to a law enacted on July 24.
The law, which went into the books without Republican Gov. Mike Dunleavy's signature, excludes co-op agreements where fishing enterprises pool contributions to pay liability claims and cover losses, or damage to vessels and machinery, according to the bill's text (BestWire, April 30, 2025).
