Japan’s Fall Chum Catch in 2023 Fell by 30% to 58,500 Tons
As of the end of December last year, the national fall chum salmon catch, supervised by the Japan Fisheries Research and Education Agency, had reached only 58,500 tons. Production increased by only about 150 tons since the end of November, reported Suisan Keizai Shimbun, indicating an unprecedented slump in the Honshu region.
Hokkaido had finished fishing by November, except for some areas in southern Hokkaido, so the total catch in December was approximately 6,000 fish, equivalent to 19 tons in weight...
