NOAA Looking to Expand Seafood Import Monitoring Program
NOAA Fisheries is seeking to increase the number of species included in the Seafood Import Monitoring Program, also known as SIMP. The program currently includes approximately 1,100 individual species. Under the proposed rule, the program would be expanded to approximately 1,670 individual species.
SIMP was initially rolled out in January 2018 for the first 11 species groups. Two additional species groups were added on December 31, 2018. These species were identified by the program because they are considered vulnerable to IUU fishing, seafood fraud or both. The 13 initial species are...
