Phillips Seafood Maryland Mansion Going Up For Auction Next Week
Steven Phillips, President and CEO of Phillips Seafood Restaurants and the founder of Phillips Foods, is selling the Maryland mansion he shares with his wife Maxine. The 23-acre estate that sits at 1604 Winchester Road in Annapolis is going up for auction next week.
The Phillips’ bought the home in 2002 for $2.5 million, but the property has a rich history. According to Sotheby’s, the home was built in 1922 by an arms dealer who “purportedly concealed illegal weapons in a hidden basement passageway still accessible today.” The property is said to have changed hands many times over the years before ultimately being purchased by the Catholic Church and converted into the St. Conrad Friary, which at one time housed more than 60 Capuchin monks. The monks lived on the property for 34 years, giving it the name “Friary on the Severn.”
