International Research Team Monitoring 53 Atlantic Herring Populations Through Genome Sequencing

Texas A&M shared work from an international team of researchers, including a professor and doctoral student from the institution, that is deploying genome sequencing to document 53 herring populations from the Atlantic Ocean and the Baltic Sea.
Research, recently published in eLife, could be used to help set fishing quotas that allow for the sustainable harvesting of genetically defined stocks. Texas A&M professor Leif Andersson and doctoral student Minal Jamsandekar contributed to the findings.
