White Shrimp See Price Rebound in Chinese Market, But Uncertainties Loom Ahead
China’s average white shrimp prices have been on the rise since the beginning of December. Facing such increasingly high prices, some farmers have rushed to sell out their deposits, while some have been waiting and hoping for even greater price increase. Insiders’ opinions vary on market prospect of these shrimp.
The prices have been anything but satisfactory for quite some time this year, and there has been very limited demand for those weighing between 40 to 50 shrimps/jin (1 jin=0.5 kilo). Many farmers have been forced to raise larger and higher-quality ones so as to meet demand of more demanding buyers and earn money (or just cover costs).
