LSU Professor Snags $1.5 Million Award for Gulf Oyster Research

Louisiana State University Professor Zhiqiang Deng received an award totaling $1.5 million from NASA and the Louisiana Board of Regents for a project which aims to provide oyster harvesters a way to detect if oyster beds are infected with norovirus and Vibrio vulnificus.
The project, dubbed “Satellite-Assisted Forecasting Environment for Improving Oyster Safety (SAFE Oyster)” was chosen for the federal award from NASA’s Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) Program Office.
