New Zealand Announces New Protections For Hector’s and Māui dolphins
New Zealand has new protection measures in place for Hector’s and Māui dolphins. Minister of Fisheries Sturt Nash and Minister of Conservation Eugene Sage made the announcement last week.
“Hector’s dolphins are nationally vulnerable with about 15,000 in New Zealand’s waters. Māui dolphins are critically endangered, with only about 63 left. These precious marine mammals are New Zealand’s taonga and we need to act now to ensure they are there for future generations,” said Sage.
