Safeway Meets Responsible Seafood Procurement Goals for 29 Million Pounds of its Supply Chain

Safeway announced that 77 percent of its fresh and frozen seafood supply chain and 99 percent of its private label seafood products met the grocer's in-house Responsible Sourcing Committment in 2015.
The grocer, which is a subsidiary of Albertson's, said 29 million pounds of the seafood it has procured since 2010 has now come from responsible sources as prescribed by its own supply chain management program. Safeway operates the Carrs, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Vons, and Pavilions banners.
In 2010 Safeway estbalished its own seafood procurement policy in partnership with FishWise. Under the committment Safeway said would only buy Green or Yellow rated seafood products as prescribed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program; or seafood certified to an equivalent environmental standard, or sourced from a credible, time-bound improvement project...
