Chum Prices Collapse in Southeast Alaska As Processors See Global Market Flood From Russia

Last Saturday Trident Seafoods sent a letter to their fleet dropping the price of chum salmon from $.50/lb to $.20/lb, effective Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Calling the global salmon market “volatile” and future indicators “more concerning”, Trident gave a short history of this season’s markets.

Bristol Bay Fishermen Set to Protest Low Prices Offered By Processors

Bristol Bay fishermen started the season on an open ticket and earlier this week prices for salmon were announced – at a steep decrease from last year. 

Processors like Trident Seafoods, North Pacific Seafoods and Peter Pan Seafood set a base price of 50 cents per pound. To compare to last year, Trident had a base price of $1.15. However, a record breaking salmon run in 2022 of 79 million fish means that there is still plenty of inventory...

Alaska Air Cargo Delivered First Copper River Salmon From Cordova to Sea-Tac Airport

Hailed as an “annual rite of spring” the first delivery of Copper River king salmon arrived at Seattle-Tacoma Airport yesterday after being landed during the first opener on the Copper River Flats outside of Cordova, AK. The shipment arrived early Tuesday morning at the Alaska Air Cargo Warehouse to a welcoming crowd of television cameras and journalists.

As part of their 50th year in business, Trident Seafoods released their first ESG report last week, identifying key values for the brand, and changes made that reflect those goals.

Trident Vessel Fire Update: USCG Releases More Information on Response

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has released additional information on their response to a fire onboard the F/V Kodiak Enterprise, which started early Saturday morning while the vessel was moored at Trident Seafoods in the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma. 

As SeafoodNews reported yesterday, firefighters continued to battle the flames on Sunday. At-sea Processors Association Lands FISH Standard for Crew Certification For 14-Vessel Fleet

The At-sea Processors Association (APA)’s catcher-processor fleet has achieved FISH Standard for Crew certification.

The certification focuses on labor practices aboard fishing vessels. APA’s now-certified 14-vessel fleet harvests Alaska Pollock and Pacific hake which provides billions of seafood meals for consumers in both the U.S. and abroad every year.

OBI, Trident Sell $4.3 Million Worth of Pollock, Salmon in Latest USDA Purchase

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) purchased over $4.3 million of Alaska pollock and pink salmon products for child nutrition and other related domestic food assistance programs for Fiscal Year 2023.

According to the Purchase Award Description released by the USDA, the government bought 910,800 pounds worth of frozen Alaska pollock for just shy of $1.7 million. The USDA also bought $2.6 million worth of canned pink salmon products.

Trident Vessel Fire Update: Unified Command Steps Down Friday

On Saturday, April 8 a Unified Command composed of the Tacoma Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound, the Washington Department of Ecology, Puyallup Tribe of Indians, and several other agencies, responded to a fire on board Trident’s F/V Kodiak Enterprise, which was moored in the Hylebos Waterway. On Friday, April 21, that Unified Command finally stepped down.

Wild Alaska Pollock Named Official Whitefish of NHL’s Seattle Kraken

Pollock fans, it’s time to hit the ice as Wild Alaska Pollock is now the official Whitefish of Climate Pledge Arena and the Seattle Kraken of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Trident Seafoods F/V Kodiak Enterprise Catches Fire in Tacoma Saturday Morning

On Saturday morning the Tacoma Fire Department, Coast Guard, Environmental Protection Agency and the Washington Department of Ecology, among other agencies, were alerted to a fishing vessel that caught fire while moored at Trident Seafoods in the Hylebos Waterway in Tacoma.

Seafood Industry Appears in Full Force at SENA as 'Everybody Seems to be Back'

The seafood industry has once again taken over the city of Boston, with Seafood Expo North America kicking off on Sunday.

Despite the show returning a year ago, the 2023 edition feels like a true return to normal with attendance up and more companies setting up booths at the event. It all started in 1973 with Chuck Bundrant’s “vision and determination.” Now, in 2023, Trident Seafoods is celebrating 50 years in business.

Trial for Disability Lawsuit Involving Trident Seafoods, Former Employee Scheduled

Trident Seafoods and a former employee are scheduled for trial over alleged discrimination. According to a trial schedule filed in the U.S. District Court in Washington, the trial is set for 9 a.m. on September 5, 2023 and is set to take 3-4 days to complete.
