Chilean Salmon Farmers Say Gov't Should Not Mandate Production Cuts in Response to Victor Hugo Puchi

The Chilean salmon industry said producers should be responsible for curbing production, not the state, in response to comments made by AquaChile President Victor Hugo Puchi and published this week in a Bloomberg article.
Earlier this week Puchi was interviewed by Bloomberg about the current state of the salmon industry in Chile. He said operators are struggling to stay afloat with global market prices down while inventories and production continue to trend at record highs all while export markets are more limited.
Puchi said the Chilean government should step in and force producers to curb production volumes. He said limiting the available supply could increase market prices and generate positive revenues for producers...
