Wisconsin Lawmaker Proposes Eliminating Shrimp, Shellfish from FoodShare Purchases

MADISON, Wis. - A state lawmaker has reintroduced a bill saying what can and can't be bought with food stamps in Wisconsin.
He said it would help make sure people spend FoodShare money more wisely, but it is already drawing criticism from those who deal with hunger issues in the state.
Rep. Rob Brooks, R-Saukville, said the bill aims to realign the program as only a "supplemental nutrition" program. The measure would say at least two-thirds of federal FoodShare benefits must be spent on WIC-approved foods, as well as beef, pork, chicken, fish and fresh produce. Benefits could not be used ...
