Sue Aspelund has announced her retirement and will step down from her position as the executive director of the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association.
The decision comes just about a year since Aspelund took up the position. The BBRSDA credited Aspelund's work with strengthening its policy foundation, budgeting and financial control processes. She was also integral in facilitating board training and strategic planning for Quality and Marketing.
"I’ve discovered after a year in this position that I’m just not as young as I used to be, darn it,” Aspelund said, “and I no longer have the stamina to work the hours that I believe the organization and the membership deserve. I’ve realized over the past several months that I really want time to enjoy my peaceful Lummi Island home, dig in the dirt and grow food, and get out in my old setnet skiff to harvest some delicious sidestripe shrimp and Dungeness crab in the Salish Sea.”
