Newfoundland Tells EU Countries It Will Not Honor CETA Requirements Unless Ottawa Sticks to Agreement

Newfoundland's Provincial Government held a series of meetings with the Ambassadors of European Union states in Canada to say that until the Federal Government upholds its $400 million commitment, the Province is "suspending its participation in all trade agreements and all trade agreements currently under negotiation by the Federal Government would not have any effect in matters within the jurisdiction of Newfoundland and Labrador. “
As one of the part of the agreement, the EU demanded that Newfoundland eliminate laws which require fish caught in Newfoundland waters to be processed in the Province. Newfoundland is now refusing to do this.
