Prices of fishmeal for use as feed in aquaculture are now registering record high levels.
In Peru, a major fishmeal producing country, supply of raw material anchovy declined drastically, while production of farmed fish is on an increasing trend globally.
In Japan, wholesale prices of fishmeal are surging partly due to continued decline of the yen’s value.
The rise in fishmeal prices is causing increase of production costs for Japanese fish farmers.
