Crab production gaining momentum in Russia, internal struggle continues over IUU fish

Crab production in Russia is gaining momentum, according to Andrew Hornicnyh, head of department of organization of fisheries of Russian Rosrybolovstvo. At the same time, lobbying by the powerful groups who control the illegal harvest is delaying actions to make this crab part of the legal quota system.
According to Hornicnyh, total king crab catch in Russia through the first week in October reached 2,500 tonnes, which is equivalent to 52% of the total quota for the current year, which is set at 4762 tonnes.
Much of this crab wll be coming to the US in the next few months...
