Fraser River late run produces ten million sockeye and still going

The Fraser sockeye run is still on, and may even show the latest date commercial catches on record.
The pre-season harvest estimate of ten million fish has been exceeded as of Monday, September 22. The newly adjusted estimate for the total run is now 20.8 million fish, with catches in British Columbia and Washington at 10.24 million sockeye and B.C. processors looking at another week, perhaps ten days before the season ends.
"We haven't seen a fishery that has gone past the end of September for a long time," says Rob Morley, vice president of production for the Canadian Fish Company. "In 1986, as I recall, the last catch was recorded on October 4."
But this year's run has been late all along, and the largest section of it also happens to be the last one in.
