FL Sen. Rubio's bill tackles Gulf commercial, recreational management issues for MSA reauthorization

The Gulf Seafood Institute (GSI) endorsed a revised fishery management plan proposed by Florida Senator Marco Rubio that addresses Gulf red snapper management among other key regional stock assessment issues that would be part of the reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Act.
A highlight of Senator Rubio's Florida Fisheries Improvement Act addresses Gulf and Atlantic Council nominations that seeks to esnure commercial, charter and recreational fishing interests are represented among the leadership.
Also included is a requirement for Councils to review the allocation process every five to eight years and directs the National Academy of Sciences to work with NOAA to assist in identifying what Councils should take into account when dealing with the allocation process...
