Gulf council removes CCA lobbyist from Scientific Committee; will revisit votes on red snapper

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has taken the unusual step of removing a controversial member of their Socioeconomic Scientific and Statistical Committee (SESSC) today due to conflict of interest and has decided to reconvene the committee to reconsider actions directly influenced by the member’s vote.
This has major implications for management of the valuable red snapper fishery, including on the Council’s consideration of Amendment 28, a proposal to take a portion of the red snapper fishery used to provide seafood to the consumer market and give it to the recreational fishery.
