SEAFOODNEWS.COM [SCOM] February 4, 2014

The Pacific Fishing Company Limited (PAFCO) will resume its Fijian tuna production operations today after a seven week maintenance shutdown and said its business is mostly immune to foreign fishing compeition in the region that has recently forced the closure of other tuna operations.
PAFCO's seven week shutdown was for normal maintence but before the planned shutdown, an upgrade was required for the company's cooling systems that use ammonia gas.
PAFCO's reopening follows some mid-January reports from Fiji Fish Marketing Group and Solander (Pacific) Limited who said they have been forced to shut down most of their operations as it is no longer economically viable to continine fishing.
