Retailers Expect Container Import Decline to Accelerate in ’26
U.S. monthly imports are forecast to fall through the beginning of next year after retailers rushed in goods to get ahead of tariffs and stock up for the holidays.
The National Retail Federation's Global Port Tracker estimates that imports will fall through the rest of the year to 1.75 million loaded containers, measured in 20-foot equivalent units, in December, the lowest level since March 2023.
