Massachusetts' oldest industry continues to help fuel the economy butfaces a plethora of short- and long-term challenges, according to fishermen and the lawmakers and officials who represent them.
The Massachusetts fishing industry in 2022 generated more than $21.8 billion in sales and nearly 214,000 jobs, according to a 2024 Fisheries Economics of the U.S. report from the U.S. Department of Commerce.
